Nicky, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, U.S.A. Casa Bellavista is a beautiful place from which to experience Oaxaca. The top floor room offers a gorgeous view of the entire Oaxacan valley, with blue-hued distant mountains, expansive skyline, rustic tranquility of the highlands, and is close to long nature walks that weave through the hillside farmland. I loved Bellavista because it offered the quiet of the countryside (no loud taxis and buses), but was close to central downtown's arts, crafts, cuisine and such. The hostess is warm and fun. I recommend it highly.

Donna Duckman, Brighton, Colorado, U.S.A. Casa Bellavista B&B sits high on a hill, like an adobe castle, offering refuge from the busy life of the city. Upon returning from your excursions or studies, you can retreat to your hammock on your private verandah. There, your body, mind and spirit can return naturally to their own rhythm. If you should return in the evening from the Zocalo you may choose to bask in the glow of a moon that appears to never wane. Martha is an experienced, gracious hostess with much useful and practical information on Oaxaca, as this region has always been her home. As well, she likes to help others to enjoy the Oaxaca region.

Linda and Peter, Waverley NS Canada. We stayed here for almost a month and enjoyed the experience very much. Our room was spacious, clean, private and had a wonderful view. Every morning we went on a long walk in the countryside with Martha and her Chowchow "Oso". Being birders, we delighted in the large variety of species we encountered on our walks, from Blue-grey Gnatcatchers to Caracaras. We saw many species from our balcony as well. The clean, cool air and quiet environment were delightful, and Martha is a most pleasant hostess, always willing to help us practice our Spanish. Highly recommended.

Gary and Susan Dean, Colorado Springs, Colorado, U.S.A. Our stay at Casa Bellavista was a wonderful and pleasant experience. The accomodations are clean and spacious and a host like Martha is difficult to find anywhere. Her hospitality and kindness really made our trip to Oaxaca a memorable one. Whether its going on a walk with her in the morning in the foothills of the mountains by her house, engaging in some "intercambios" with her around the dining room table or receiving some excellent travel tips for sightseeing or shoppping in and around Oaxaca, Martha is truly a terrific resource. Casa Bellavista is located slightly above the city of Oaxaca. The views of the city, valley, and nearly mountains from the upstairs balcony are specially beautiful. We spent a lot of time in the early morning and late afternoon hours resting and taking in all the sights from the balcony outside our bedroom. We highly recommend Casa Bellavista to anyone wanting to vacation, learn spanish, or just relax in Oaxaca. You will leave with wonderful memories and will have made a new friend in Martha.

Dave and Carolyn Moser, Tucson, Arizona, U.S.A. We loved our weeklong stay at Casa Bellavista. It was such a pleasure to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, while being close enough to see its charms as well. Martha is the ultimate hostess and her dogs are very entertaining. We were served traditional Oaxacan food at breakfast and had three great dinners with her as well. We looked forward to arriving "home" each night after our day excursions. We also enjoyed walking in the hills around her home with the green mountains, streams, fresh air and wonderful views. You can't beat Casa Bellavista for a country stay in Oaxaca!

Nydia E. Rosales, San Francisco, CA, U.S.A. Dear Marta: My stay at Casa Bellavista was a lot more than I had hoped to find in a bed and breakfast inn (vacation spot). No doubt about it: it’s thumbs up for Casa. Casa Bellavista has more than simply just a gorgeous view. For me it also provided an unique feeling of being a participant in the sounds and vibrancy of nature. Furthermore, the climate was perfect! All this just 15 minutes distance away from downtown (to say nothing of the price!). I can easily continue the commentaries but I don’t want to leave out the gracious, hospitable and unobtrusive attendance you provide. Your friendliness and warmth helped make my stay truly memorable. In fact everything, including the dogs, contributed to my satisfaction and well-being. Thank you. Next time I make plans to visit Oaxaca I’m sure to make reservations with lots of advance notice - wouldn’t want to run the risk of No Vacancy - Again, thank you.

Maja Grip and Jack MacDermot, Vancouver, B.C. Casa Bellavista was a wonderful place to stay for several reasons: a great location in the foothills north of the city, a comfortable and well-maintained room, good breakfasts, and, above all, Martha, our gracious and friendly hostess. Casa Bellavista is perfectly named, with beautiful views both towards the city and up into the mountains behind, lots of birdlife, and splendid star-watching at night. The hills behind are easy to walk to and full of intriguing flora (grasses, flowers, trees, succulents) and fauna (including birds, goats, and insect life.) The area’s geology is of interest, especially the greenish cantera verde used for so many of the city’s buildings. We also saw an example of adobe housebuilding just up the road. The short walk to the local bus followed by the quick (and very cheap) trip into the city was a great immersion in Oaxacan daily life, and the city itself has great charm. Still, it always felt good to get back out to the quiet coolness and clean air of Casa Bellavista. Martha helped very patiently to augment our almost non-existent Spanish, and we learned mucho. She recommended a couple of restaurants that were both excellent and reasonable. Each evening friendly dogs welcomed us back from our excursions. For us this was a magical place, and we recommend it to anyone wanting a genuine and unforgettable stay in Oaxaca.

Jorge Larrosa y Montse Solerdelcoll, Barcelona, España.
